Investing In the Future of Our Community Pool
Since opening on June 11, 1989, our Community Pool has been a place for connection, recreation, and memories for generations. To help ensure it continues serving residents for years to come, the City of Carpinteria commissioned a comprehensive facility assessment by Counsilman Hunsaker to evaluate the pool’s condition, safety features, and compliance with current regulations.
The assessment found that the pool is in good condition for its age and remains a valuable community asset. With thoughtful repairs, renovations, and system upgrades, the facility can continue providing a safe, enjoyable, and welcoming environment for swimmers of all ages. The assessment also found that the estimated cost (without construction, labor, permits, etc) is $969,382.95. The final estimate which includes all costs for 2026 is $3.3M.

The pool structure itself remains strong, but several surrounding features are ready for renewal. Improvements include replacing the aging pool gutter and deck areas, updating safety signage and depth markings, and repairing worn starting blocks. These updates will help improve safety while refreshing the overall look and feel of the pool environment.
Upgraded, Safer Pool Area
Behind the scenes, important mechanical systems keep the pool clean, comfortable, and running smoothly. Upgrades to the circulation, filtration, and chemical management systems will help improve water quality, increase energy efficiency, and make daily operations more reliable. Future planning will also include replacement of aging equipment, such as the pool heaters, as they reach the end of their service life.
Smarter, More Efficient Pool Operations
Modern, Accessible Locker Rooms
The locker rooms are an important part of the overall pool experience. Renovations will focus on improving comfort, functionality, and accessibility by updating aging fixtures, repairing non-functioning equipment, and addressing ADA improvements. These enhancements will create a more welcoming and inclusive space for everyone who visits the pool.
Building a Strong Future for the Pool
Maintaining a community facility takes ongoing care and investment. These recommended upgrades will help preserve the pool, improve the experience for users, and ensure this important community gathering place continues to thrive for years to come.
