The project is focused on addressing important infrastructure, maintenance, and accessibility needs at the existing Carpinteria Community Pool.
Major improvements are anticipated to include:
Replacement and repair of the pool deck;
Replastering of the pool;
Replacement and upgrades to aging mechanical equipment; and
Accessibility improvements within the locker rooms, including improved access to toilets, sinks, and showers
This project is not a redesign or replacement of the Community Pool. The goal is to make the necessary investments in the existing facility so it can continue serving the community for years to come. While some improvements will naturally refresh portions of the facility, the project is primarily focused on infrastructure, functionality, accessibility, and extending the useful life of the pool—not cosmetic upgrades.

What is the estimated cost of the project?
The current estimated project cost is approximately $3.3 million, including design, permitting, and construction. This is a planning-level estimate and may change as the design and permitting process continues and construction costs are refined.
How long is construction expected to take?
If sufficient funding is secured to complete the full project at one time, construction is currently estimated to take approximately six months. The actual construction schedule will depend on the final scope of work, permitting, funding, and contractor availability.

What is included in the project?
The Carpinteria Community Pool is a well-used community facility, and like any pool, its major systems and infrastructure require significant maintenance, repair, and eventual replacement over time.
The proposed project addresses aging and deteriorating components of the facility, including the pool deck, pool plaster, mechanical equipment, and accessibility needs. Completing this work is important to keeping the pool safe, functional, accessible, and available to serve the community into the future.

How will the project be funded?
The City is working to fund the project through a combination of grants, fundraising efforts, and charitable donations.
Fundraising is an important part of the City's effort to complete as much of the project as possible at one time and minimize the need to phase improvements over multiple construction periods.

How were these specific improvements decided on?
Third-party aquatics firm Counsilman Hunsaker conducted an audit of the entire facility and recommended several urgent upgrades to continue operating the 37-year-old Carpinteria Community Pool. City of Carpinteria staff and elected representatives selected specific needs based on safety and best practices.

What will happen to existing pool programs during construction?
The Community Pool will need to close during construction. The City understands how important the pool and its programs are to our community and is exploring whether alternative locations or programming options may be available during the closure.
Because the construction schedule has not yet been finalized, specific information about temporary programming is not available at this time. As the project progresses and construction dates become more certain, the City will provide updates about the closure and any alternative programming opportunities on this website and through our regular communication channels.

Will the Community Pool look different when the project is finished?
For the most part, the Community Pool will remain the facility our community knows today. This project is focused primarily on repairing and replacing aging infrastructure and improving accessibility, rather than redesigning the pool.
The pool itself is not being replaced or significantly reconfigured. The goal is to preserve and invest in the existing facility so it can continue serving swimmers, families, athletes, and community programs for years to come.
